Citing your own paper or writing from an AIU class (Reuse of Prior Assignment)

Answer

Answer

When using your own writing from one AIU assignment to use in another, you MUST still cite the original source even if you re-write the language. Students may choose to reuse portions of prior work when repeating the same course or in a course that builds upon prior work. All assignments submitted to the university are subjected to an online similarity report system and any reuse of a student's own prior work must be cited according to APA guidelines.

Citing Yourself:

  • Generally speaking, you do not cite your own ideas, experience, interpretation, or analysis when writing. Your name is at the top of the paper, it's known these are your ideas.
  • The only time you would cite yourself is if you are citing a previously published work.
  • Your work in other classes does not apply as published work (although the Academic Honesty policy may apply). For example, it is regarded as self-plagiarism if you use an assignment submitted for Class A to complete an assignment for Class B without permission from your instructor. This may be seen as a violation of the Academic Honesty Policy.
