How do I find a qualitative article?

Answer

Finding a qualitative article can be a challenge. They are easier to find using one of the library's databases. In particular, it is a good idea to log into the library website, go to the Find Articles page, and click on a database focused on the subject area you are researching.

You need to select your search keywords. These are going to be single keywords or short phrases that describe the subject of your search. For example, if you are searching for information on the relationship between class sizes and test scores, you might search for class, size, test, score. You might also consider synonyms - or words that mean the same (or close to) thing. For instance, instead of test score you might use the keyword 'performance'.

Now, add a keyword for the type of research you want. If you are searching for qualitative research, you can simply include the word qualitative and that might work! You might also include other keywords relating to qualitative data or specific qualitative studies: content analysis, ethnographic, focus group, interview, narrative, phenomenological.
