The Academic Honesty and Integrity policy in the Student Handbook defines plagiarism: The New International Dictionary of the English Language, (Funk & Wagnalls, 2000, p. 965) defines Plagiarize as “to appropriate and pass off as one’s own (the writings, ideas, etc., of another)”.

This means to use someone else's words or ideas as your own. Doing so is cheating, committing fraud, stealing, and lying. Plagiarizing is an example of Academic Dishonesty. Being academically dishonest can result in failed assignments, classes, and expulsion from the university.

The university uses the Originality Verification tool TurnItIn to review assignments for similar text, which may be an indicator of plagiarism.  When you submit an assignment in the classroom, it will give you an OV Score that you can review before submitting to your instructor.

You can also get a draft review of a piece of writing using Draft Coach, which is provided by TurnItIn and will provide the same OV score report without affecting your future assignment submissions.
